About Us

Hi and welcome to our website. We are Carla and David Ashton, breeders of the magnificent British Shorthair Cat since 2009, based in Hazel Grove, Stockport, Cheshire.

Over the following pages I look forward to introducing you to our wonderful boys and girls; I hope that they inspire and captivate you as they do us.

Our aim is to breed British Shorthair cats that are true to the breed standard and regularly exhibit our cats to ensure that we are fulfilling this aspiration both in terms of type and temperament.

Of course, we all have our own interpretation of the breed standard and which aspects of the cat are most important to us. For me head type is first and foremost, which must be rounded with chubby cheeks, deep orange coloured eyes, a short nose and have neat ears. Coat is also very important and must always be short and thick enough to always appear tidy and plush. A big aspiration of mine is to achieve all of this on a large framed cat and my breeding programme is focussed at the moment on developing size in terms of heavy bones and a muscular body.

We breed cats in both dominant and dilute colours of black, chocolate, red, blue, lilac and cream. We produce these in self, bi/ tri colour and tortie variations.

It would be true to say that we breed for ourselves as we are always working on the next generation of Pawsome cats which we hope to be an improvement upon the last. Our adult girls generally have only one or two litters before being spayed and rehomed as a family pet. We occasionally have kittens available for pet homes as we do not generally sell kittens for breeding, unless the breeder is a close friend and working on similar attributes.

We simply adore our cats and there is nothing more important to us than their health and well being. They are raised on a quality diet, receive the best veterinary care and are lavished with our undivided attention. For this reason we are members of the GCCF Breeders Scheme which demonstrates our commitment to the best breeding practices. Please click on the link at the bottom of this page to discover more about the scheme. We are also both ex-committee members of the British Shorthair Cat Club and are members of many others.

Our kittens are born and raised in our home as family members. With our care and attention they soon develop into confident and well adjusted individuals ready to take their place in your home and your heart.

If I could chose one word to describe the British Shorthair cat it would be AWESOME, a word that inspired our choice of GCCF prefix PAWSOME.
